Oskar Groening, 93-year-old German was accused of aiding and abetting in the murder of 300 000 people, where he served as an SS guard in the Nazi German death camp of Auschwitz. The man said that as a security guard witnessed terrible atrocities, but he did not commit the crime.
Oskar Groening is accused of actions in the camp in occupied Poland between May and June 1944, when sent to Auschwitz approx. 425 000 Jews from Hungary, of which at least 300 000 almost immediately killed in the gas chambers – writes the Associated Press.
As the guardian, Goering had to deal with things that he takes to the victims of the camp. Prosecutors say he also accused of collecting money to help the victims.
93-year-old Oskar Groening, who lives in the area of Hanover, is one of approx. 30 former guards, whom federal investigators have recommended in the past year initiation of proceedings under the new rules. His case is the fourth under consideration in Hannover – two postponed because the suspects were unable to appear before the court, the third was closed because suspect died. Groening’s lawyer says his client is in good condition.
