– It was a good first 90 years – joked Carter in a commemorative speech to the numerous guests gathered in the chapel, located in the center of his name – The Carter Center. He stressed that it intends to conduct more active lives and expect new challenges and a lot of work.
The former president said that his life was mainly due to growing up in the small town of Plains, Georgia. He worked there and spent his free time at parties with black children who do not have the same rights as he because of the color of the skin. Carter admitted that he still feels guilty that he saw it too late.
The choice for president was – he said – the pinnacle of his political career. However, for the best time in my life took a job in the organization of The Carter Center “of this beautiful place on Earth that has established standards of moral and ethical showing what it should be a superpower like America.”
The Carter Center, which was established shortly after leaving the Carter White House, focuses on promoting health and human rights at the international level.
Wife of former president, Rosalynn, said she is proud of her husband for his achievements and for the family we have created. As for the future – she said playfully arousing applause of the audience – this one can be sure: “Something will be because Jimmy Carter is unhappy when doing nothing.”
Carter is the second in terms of age living former president. Is younger by 111 days of the George H. W. Bush, who earlier this year. celebrated his 90th birthday.
