According to reports in the newspaper “The Scotsman” and “Daily Mail”, the store manager in Kirkcaldy outraged his Polish staff, the prohibition of speaking in Polish – not only with Polish customers, but even among themselves during breaks. Poles from Kirkcaldy began collecting signatures for a protest. Workers have announced a complaint with the Directorate Lidl in Germany. And Ambassador Witold Sobków wrote to the director of the British branch of the company. As he wrote – is not only discriminatory, but also a loss for the company, which should benefit from their multilingual staff.
This letter that worked to the extent that Lidl wrote amasadorowi and issued a press statement expressing pride in the multi-ethnicity of its staff. Statement states that workers have the right to serve customers in a language that is comprehensible to them and talk privately in the language in which they want, but remember that other colleagues can not understand them.
In a statement, however, Lidl writes about the “misinformation” and in a letter to the ambassador Sobków even of “false information” about its language policy. No mention at all about a particular situation in Kirkcaldy.
