Arrested a man who was planning an attack on the Capitol – Virtual Poland

FBI agents arrested the resident of Cincinnati (Ohio), who was planning to make a bomb attack on the building of the Capitol in Washington and spoke of his support for the Islamic State – US federal prosecutors announced.
 

According to the testimony of an FBI informant disclosed contained in court documents, 20-year-old Christopher Lee Cornell studied the construction of pipe bombs and purchased two semi-automatic M-15 rifles and 600 rounds of ammunition. These bombs intended to be placed in the Capitol building, located both houses of Congress (parliament), the United States and in its vicinity.
 

Cornell also had to have the intention to attack using weapons of people in the middle of the building – Congressmen and staff offices Congress. During the meeting with a secret FBI informant in November last year. R. Cornell was to say that he considers congressmen “for his enemies.” He added that he has not received direct instructions from the Islamic State to make these attacks.
 


 From the court documents show that Cornell did not hide his sympathy for the Islamic State and carried out with the intention of making their own initiative “acts of jihad.” It recently announced on Twitter that he supports the Islamic State acting as Raheel Mahrus Ubadyah.

The suspect arrested on Wednesday during a covert operation FBI SWAT team, after he bought firearms and ammunition. He was charged with attempted murder of US government officials, and possession of a firearm with intent to commit an act of violence. The indictment was submitted to the Federal District Court in Cincinnati.
 

Justice Department spokesman Marc Raimondi assured that Cornell, who lived in a suburb of Cincinnati, Green Township, never made it to Washington and was not able to directly threaten the safety of the public.
 

On Tuesday, authorities revealed that another resident of Ohio, working as a bartender, was charged with threatening to murder the chairman (speaker), the House of Representatives, Republican John Boehner. Boehner refused to talk to reporters about this, but his spokesman Michael Steel said: Once again, the Congress drew a debt of gratitude to the FBI and all those who keep us safe.
