The United States must increase the number of military maneuvers and training programs in Europe and improve the exchange of intelligence information within NATO to counter Russia’s aggressive policies in the region – said US Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter.
The head of the Pentagon admitted that the current international economic sanctions against Russia did not stop its support of separatists in eastern Ukraine. In his opinion, Russian President Vladimir Putin may use similar tactics against other countries in the region.
– We must recognize the fact that at least for now, Putin does not seem to change its policy. Therefore, we must, in the long run, to adapt to this situation – said Carter. This may include increasing the number of US military maneuvers and training programs in the countries of Eastern Europe.
