At the airport in Havana, Cuba came to the first, historic meeting of Pope Francis and Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Cyril.
It was the first of nearly a thousand years of schism meeting of heads of the Roman Catholic Church and the Russian Orthodox Church. The signed 30-point declaration Francis and Cyril expressed a desire for the restoration of unity.
Archbishop of Warsaw Cardinal Kazimierz Nycz rated meeting Pope Francis and Patriarch Kirill as an event of great and significant, expected already by previous popes. – Let’s be optimistic that signed the declaration and talks and gestures that have been made will herald a continuation – said the Metropolitan of Warsaw.
In his opinion, the meeting should be judged on two levels. At the level of theological and ecumenical signing of a declaration is a step towards the unification of the churches. But it is a long and difficult road.
On the other hand, a collaborative charity and social action in favor of peace, this event is more encouraging, because here the cooperation is easier. Cardinal Nycz expressed the hope that cooperation at the level of charitable and social open the way to the theological dialogue. – Even in the recent history of this type of interreligious meetings we have examples that have been frosted with ordinary everyday life. Polish Primate believes that the meeting of the Pope with your supervisor Russian Orthodox Church was of epoch-making.
