The Pope’s exhortation Amoris Laetitia repeats pastoral proposals the synod of bishops. Although Pope Francis – contrary to the expectations of progressive hierarchy and the liberal media – not “legalized divorce” might do it for him, some clerics. In the case of divorced and remarried past practice extremely progressive clergy and bishops (especially the West) will not change. A bishops faithful to Christ’s teaching? Well, they will interpret the papal document differently.
Watching the preparations for the publication of the Apostolic Exhortation of the family, it was impossible not to notice that the Holy Father was at a crossroads. On the one hand he had to take into account the position close to him cardinals Kasper and Marx, wanting papal consent to giving Holy Communion rozwodnikom living in new relationships. They even suggested that the German Church “is not a subsidiary of Rome” and if their demands are not met, can lead to schism. On the other hand, a group of bishops faithful to Christ’s teaching also made clear that – stressing that this type of reasoning is a heresy! The Pope knew then that any firm and clear position stored in the Amoris Laetitia will cause conflict among the cardinals, schism or accusations of heresy. Although it should be noted that Catholics have a right to expect that Francis simply repeat Christ’s teaching on the indissolubility of marriage (and therefore unable to receive Holy Communion by divorced). But it did not happen. Too bad, because who like who, but the pope should not be against such liability avoid under any threat, even the threat of schism.
After publication, but we know that the Pope has chosen a different path – path “synodality.” Six months ago, the Holy Father said that “God expects of the Church in the third millennium road synodality.” It is also a way of decentralization of the Church, to which we see the tendency tracking the current pontificate on every step. We see it also in the just published Exhortation, especially in the chapter on “pastoral practice” – the Pope repeats because the records directly from the document ending the meeting of the synod. This is the first symptom of this synodality and decentralization. The second is the content itself repeated paragraphs.
After the publication of the final document of the Synod, many ministers pointed out that the words used in them are not clear on the fundamental question of faith. Cardinal Burke insisted, for example, that “integration is not a theological term, which makes its understanding may be ambiguous.” – I do not understand how it could be “the key pastoral accompaniment rozwodnikom who have entered into a new union.” The key pastoral activity should be after Communion based on christic truth about marriage, even if one of the parties to the marriage has been abandoned by sin, on the other hand – I noticed.
As if that were not enough, when these paragraphs are included in the final document of the Synod, both parties to the dispute, both progressives bishops and hierarchs faithful to the teachings of Christ … proclaimed his triumph. How is this possible when arguing very strongly, and their positions seemed irreconcilable? Everything is a matter of the language used, the amplified now by the pope in exhortation.
And so, Cardinal Kasper to quote these paragraphs claimed that now, after proper “discernment” of the situation, divorcees living in new relationships will be able to proceed to Holy Communion. That’s what it means, according to him a phrase such as “integration logic” or “divorcees may not feel excommunicated.”
orthodox bishops at the synod also announced their victory. They were pleased that the final document is not a word about the possibility of acceding to Holy Communion by the people living in grave sin, which meant that the efforts of the liberal party were thwarted. They concluded that “greater integration”, which must result from charity, is simply greater inclusion, eg. Work in the council of the parish and ministry during the Mass.
It’s just that both in that document, as well as exhortation Amoris Laetitia (although really were not words to allow the sin of sacrilege), it also specifies explicitly that the sacraments join them, do not. John Paul II, when proclaiming Familiaris Consortio, in order to avoid any misunderstanding wrote: However, the Church reaffirms her practice, based on Sacred Scripture, of not admitting to Eucharistic Communion divorced persons who have remarried. They can not be admitted to holy communion from the time when their state and condition of life objectively contradict that union of love between Christ and the Church which is signified and effected by the Eucharist. The Exhortation of Pope Francis this clear, leaving no field to interpret the finding missing.
What can thus ensue?
it seems that in the next few years we will see wallow many churches in the state of actual, albeit informal “divorce schism.” Polish bishops, strongly defending the teaching of the Lord Jesus confirmed in the documents of John Paul II, will continue to provide a faithful Catholic doctrine and take care of inviolate and pastoral discipline in this area. It remains so, despite the fact that Poles belong to the group of nations struggling with a wave of divorces. Just as the Polish hierarchy shall proceed bishops from Africa, much of the clergy from the east of Europe and the individual bishops of the West. The rest will be glad that the papal document is designed so that it can continue to bring to life his own interpretation of the Gospel, according to which no matter how and with whom you live, no matter if you’ve been to confession, it’s important that you wish to receive Holy Communion, so should those of its give.
already during the Synod of the situation envisioned widely read English-language portal “Voice of the Family” writing, “70 years after the end of world war II the Oder and Neisse between Germany and Polish seems to now separate the Church along the lines of heterodoxy and Catholicism. Please pray at this critical time. “
It’s hard to this request today is not repeated. The more that Pope Francis did not stop in his exhortation solely on the nice, warm and pokrzepiających words – what is more, it is not difficult to imagine that many of the expressions used by him can be used by progressives as a kind of bat on clerics interpret the document differently than they do. The Pope concluded his exhortation because quotations from his own synod of ending. Francis writes, for example: In connection with this pastor can not feel happy using only moral rights to people living in situations of “irregular” as if they were stones, which throws the lives of people. Such is the case of closed hearts, which often hide even the teaching of the Church, to “sit on the chair of Moses and the judge, sometimes with a sense of superiority and superficial, difficult cases and hurt families.”
who wants to be the one who throws stones at the person defended by the Holy Father? And who will now interpret what is still proceeding “according to the teaching of the Church” and what is “throwing stones”? If someone came to mind that the document in such a shape can cause some kind of turmoil – if it is interpreted with ill will – that replies to the pope himself:
I understand those who they prefer a more stringent ministry, leaving no room for any confusion. Frankly, however, I believe that Jesus Christ wants Church drawing attention to the good that the Holy Spirit is spreading among the weaknesses: Mother, while expressing a clear objective science “does not resign from the possible good, but take the risk of tainted the street mud.” Pastors proposing faithful to complete the ideal of the Gospel and the teaching of the Church, they shall also assist in the adoption of logic compassion for the weak and to avoid persecution or judgmental too harsh or impatient. The same Gospel calls us not to judge and not condemn (cf. Matthew 7: 1; Lk 6: 37).
O Holy Communion is not here without a word. But as we understand that the bishops of the West? Cardinal Kasper had already comment on the Amoris Laetitia. He considered it as a “milestone” in the history of the Church.
