Spain: Socialists will not support Rajoy – Banker

Socialist spokesman Antonio Hernando said on Monday that his party would not support a candidate for Prime Minister of Spain Mariano Rajoy, whose conservative Popular Party (PP) won Sunday’s parliamentary elections.

Previously, Rajoy in an interview with Spanish radio, Cope said he must try to create a majority government, because without it is very difficult to govern. “I believe that within a month we will have the basis for an agreement. Nonsensical would be wasting time for several months,” – he added.

spokesman for the Socialists, who have ranked in second place, said, however, that his party would not support the candidature Rajoy, or abstain from voting on the vote of confidence in Rajoy, which would allow the creation of a minority government PP.

“If Rajoy wants to talk, let’s talk about those who preach similar to his views, “said Hernando. He noted that the Spanish Socialist Workers Party (PSOE) after the elections in opposition.

A few hours earlier, one of the senior representatives of the PSOE, Guillermo Fernandez Vara told radio Onda Cero that must quickly form a government under the leadership of Rajoy. As noted by Reuters, hitherto the socialists rejected this possibility. “The voters have told us that this is what you need to do and to do it we must” – said Fernandez Vara.

On Monday, the head of the liberal center-right party Ciudadanos Albert Rivera stated that he would not support the government of Rajoy headed. The leader of this formation, which won 32 seats in the Congress of Deputies, assured even before the elections, that the day after the vote, sit down to negotiate the government with the conservatives and socialists.

In Sunday’s early parliamentary elections in Spain, won the People’s Party; He won 137 seats, improving your score with December last year. PP did not win but the majority necessary for self-government, or 176 seats in the Congress of Deputies, 350-seat lower house of parliament, Spain.

The PSOE obtained 85 seats, it was the worst result in the history of the Socialists.

The PSOE and the PP would have a theoretical chance of the formation of a majority government, although the newspaper “El Mundo” finds this scenario as unlikely. Another option would be a pact PP and Ciudadanos with the support of other parties or abstention by one of the formations, since PP and Ciudadanos together have 169 seats in the lower house and thus are close to an absolute majority.

Commentators new election result threatens to further paralyze the political and the that the heads of groups again for many months may not be able to agree on a government. Experts note, however, that the two biggest groups will seek to establish a government, because another vote would not have them on hand.

The new parliament will meet on July 19 and then King Philip VI returns to Rajoy to try to form a government. But, as promised to the parties before the elections, the talks will begin now. (PAP)
