Three Belgians detained during a police operation on the night of Friday to Saturday, accused of an attempt to make a terrorist murder and participation in the activities of a terrorist group – said the Belgian federal prosecutor. All were arrested. The other nine detained in the operation were released after interrogation.

As part of the anti-terrorist investigation Belgian police carried out during the night from Friday to Saturday searches in 16 municipalities – searched dozens of homes and over 150 garages, but – as reported Attorney General’s office – not found “neither weapons nor explosives.” Interviewed a total of 40 people.

The authorities did not disclose further details of the operation. Stressed only that “it was necessary to intervene immediately.”

According to unconfirmed information provided by the Belgian media, police actions could be related to football championships in Europe. The newspaper “De Standaard” wrote that the object of interest was suspected, among others, fan zone in the center of the Belgian capital.

On Saturday, the Belgian national team played their second match at Euro 2016 ( Ireland defeated 3: 0 ).
