At the news of the death of Professor. Elie Wiesel, a lot of people from the world of politics expressed huge regret. These include Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, US President Barack Obama and French President Francois Hollande.
– Elie, a master of words, his extraordinary personality appeared the victory of the human spirit over evil and cruelty. His work reflects not only the Holocaust, but also hope and optimism in the face of the darkness of Auschwitz. I am grateful that I could get to know him personally and so much from him – said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Israeli President Reuven Rivlin described Wiesel as a “hero of the Jewish people.” In his opinion, a former prisoner of the concentration camp Auschwitz “embodied the determination of the human spirit” to overcome all evil and overcome all obstacles.
Former Israeli president Shimon Peres recalled that the deceased experienced the worst atrocities in the face of which could stand mankind. Defeated them and all life emphasized how important it is to exterminate the tragedy is never repeated.
– This is the witness that he personally lived through this whole ordeal, it is all hell, which the Germans created in Europe. He lost his family, came out of the death camp like a skeleton, but survived and has become a living symbol of the Holocaust, but also a symbol of tolerance – said the former ambassador of Israel in Poland, prof. US President Barack Obama called Wiesel “one of the most important moral voices of our time” and “the conscience of the world.” Despite the sustained suffering Nobel Peace Prize winner ever – according to Obama – did not lose faith in humanity and progress, “which is possible when we relate to each other with dignity and respect.”

German foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier stressed that Wiesel has dedicated his life to fighting indifference and oblivion. – He was a man who tirelessly fought with violence, intolerance and hatred. Very saddened to hear the news of the death of this great man. I bow before the work of his life – he added.

Prof. Elie Wiesel came from Romania. He survived the concentration camp Auschwitz, where he died of his mother and one of his sisters. In 1955 he emigrated to the United States. First he lived in Washington, then in New York.
He was one of the most famous and vivid witnesses of the Holocaust.
The ocean became famous when translated into English his book “Night” – autobiographical tale of horror, which was witnessed in the German concentration camps. He wrote a total of 57 books.
He was active in the defense of the oppressed and persecuted minorities. In 1986, awarding him the Nobel Peace Prize, the Nobel Committee described it as a “messenger of humanity,” the message of peace, reconciliation and human dignity.
In the years 1980-1986 he was chairman of the US Holocaust Memorial Council. He initiated the construction of the US Holocaust Museum in Washington.
Wiesel has received dozens of awards and titles of historical and scientific institutions around the world, including Polish. Despite all the awards he said that the best of luck gave him the work of a teacher and lecturer.
