A forest fire on the Greek island of Evia. Evacuated hundreds of tourists – fakt.pl

For several days, Greece has been struggling with a wave of fires. The fire reached the island of Evia. As reported rustic service, because of the heat and the wind, the fire spread very quickly, making it difficult taming by firefighters. The authorities of the island decided to evacuate the tourists on Evia.

Local media reported that firefighters are fighting the fire from the land and air. In fire fighting involved more than 120 firefighters and dozens of volunteers. They are supported against troops and military units that arrived from Athens and Lamia.

So far, the fire destroyed dozens of hectares of pine forests. Authorities decided to evacuate tourists from the hotel located close to the sea and hermits living in the monastery Galataki. At the moment there is no information about the victims of the people on Evia. It is also unclear whether any of the evacuees are Poles. Polish travel agencies do not communicate to suspend tours to Greece. We only know that fires plagued the south and central part of Greece have killed at least 51 people.
