The murder occurred at approx. 23.40 (21.40 in Poland) on the big bridge Moskworeckim, adjacent to Wasiliewskiego Spusku, which is an extension of the Red Square. Investigative Committee spokesman Vladimir Markin of the Russian Federation said that the Nemtsov was given at least seven shots from a passing car.

The Russian president’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov reported that Vladimir Putin was immediately informed of the assassination of Nemtsov. “Putin, a brutal murder has all the features of contract killings and has an extremely provocative.”
Peskov said that “the president told the heads of the Investigative Committee, the Interior Ministry and Federal Security Service set up a joint investigative group and taking personal supervision of the investigation”.

The Germans sharply criticized Putin’s policies, especially Russia’s involvement in the conflict in Ukraine, defining them as Russian aggression.
