The death of musician confirmed his agent. Joe Cocker for a long time struggled with lung cancer. He was the winner of many awards, including a Grammy in 1983 for the song “Up Where We Belong”. He was on the list of “Rolling Stone” hundred best singers in the world, where he took 97 place.

Born in Sheffield, John Robert Cocker first steps on stage posed as a 15-year-old band The Cavaliers, and later joined the formation Vance Arnold & amp; The Avengers. His own band The Grease Band founded in the mid-60s when Cocker was spotted by producer Denny Cordell, who brought the group to London and helped to sign a recording contract. The result was the first CD, “With A Little Help From My Friends” (1969). With the participation of Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin and Stevie Winwood of Traffic.

Cocker debut contained 10 songs, of which only three – “Change in Louise”, “Marjorine” and “Sandpaper Cadillac” – were taken by vocalist and keyboardist Chris Stainton. The rest are songs by other artists (including Bob Dylan, Nina Simone and Traffic), which – as it soon turned out – has become almost a trademark Cocker.

To this day, the Briton by many is considered to be the sole contractor who sang the Beatles better than themselves. Talking about the title track “With A Little Help From My Friends”, which Cocker amazing way (these specific movements of the hands and arms) performances included at a memorable Woodstock Festival in 1969.

Joe Cocker eagerly reached for the work of the Beatles – the first single, before recording their debut album was “I’ll Cry Instead” by the company Lennon / McCartney. In the following years he took to grips with, among others, “Something,” “She Came in Through the Bathroom Window”, “You’ve Got to Hide Your Love Away”, “Come Together” and solo songs by John Lennon and Paul McCartney.

The rich discography Joe Cocker is filled to the brim with songs performed previously by others (from Stevie Wonder, Bob Marley, Leonard Cohen, Elton John, Van Morrison, The Lovin ‘Spoonful, Marvin Gaye, the Prince, U2, INXS, Bryan Adams and REM) but the Briton has repeatedly proved that, in its versions can squeeze copyright mark.

The ballad “You Are So Beautiful” (1974.) so strongly intertwined with Cocker, that hardly anyone remembers that her first performer (and co-author with the likes of Dennis Wilson of The Beach Boys) was the late Billy Preston. It was the first major success (5th place in the charts) Cocker in the United States.

Another triumph came in 1982, thanks to the used in the movie “An Officer and a Gentleman” (Richard Gere cast and Debra Winger) hit “Up Where We Belong”. Duet with Jennifer Warnes, among others, brought artists songs Oscar, a Golden Globe and a BAFTA Award, a Grammy performers.

Patent Cocker + video = proved to be a hit in 1986, when the painting “9 1/2 weeks” (during the scene Strip Kim Basinger) appeared in the song “You Can Leave Your Hat On”. Of course, it was a cover, because the original came from the hand of a singer, composer and later composers of film music Randy Newman in 1972.

Since the early 90s, Joe Cocker write more and more chapters to his biography, regularly every few years by releasing new discs (last – “Fire it Up” from 2012.) and promoting them on tours which includes Poland.

Joe Cocker died at his ranch in Crawford Mad Dog, Colorado, USA, where for years he lived with his second wife Pam Baker (they were married 27 years).
