He said that Russia will continue its ambitious program of modernization of the armed forces, with particular emphasis on strategic nuclear forces. He emphasized that nuclear power is “an important factor in maintaining global equilibrium.” He added that “effectively preclude the possibility of large-scale aggression against Russia.”

Putin also announced that the army is to receive in the near future 50 new intercontinental ballistic missiles – is much more than in previous years.

He also demanded – according to TASS – to “submarines do not become the docks” and rocket batteries were “properly maintained.”

We need to organize the cooperation of industry and the armed forces for the control of new equipment, the timely introduction of its operation and transfer of military units – said Putin. To do this, of course, in an appropriate manner and with minimum effort to prepare infrastructure and personnel. We can not accept the fact that naval unit standing idle and only absorb funds for maintenance – he noted.

He added that this applies not only vessels but also aviation and all the other systems defense.

Line relations between Russia and the West have deteriorated due to the crisis in Ukraine and is the worst since the end of the Cold War. In Russia, do not stop the huge expenditures on the military – and this despite the economic problems caused by Western sanctions imposed on Moscow in connection with its role as the Ukrainian conflict, and the collapse of oil prices on world markets. The sharp depreciation of the ruble this week fueled concerns about high inflation and financial crisis.
