From the Cologne Cathedral stolen relics of John Paul II. As announced Archdiocese of Cologne, unknown perpetrators stole the reliquary glass capsule, which was placed a piece of material with a drop of blood of the holy pope.
The relics of John Paul II, placed in a reliquary on one of the walls of the temple are venerated in Cologne Cathedral since December 2013 in the so-called next. Madonna decorations – small figurines of the Mother of God dressed in a coat, which, in gratitude for experienced grace, the faithful used to suspend costly votive offerings.
The theft was observed on Sunday morning. The police immediately launched an investigation into the matter. In an interview with the German agency Catholic KNA pastor of the Cathedral Gerd Bachner did not hide his indignation: “Although the value of the material stolen relics is small, and the loss of the spiritual – a huge” – the priest said and stressed that John Paul II his leaving to the Lord touched the whole world and gave the example of great dignity. “Therefore, this theft is for me not just an ordinary offense, but perceive it as causing damage to the great man even after his death, and all the people who haunt this place of memory in our cathedral,” – said the pastor Bachner.
