German police announced the audacious theft, which took place in Cologne. Church pastor informed about the incident. The priest wonders what could be the cause of robbery.
– The value of the material is still small. For us, however, it is a huge waste of spirit – said the parish priest, Fr. Cologne Cathedral. Gerd Bachner in an interview with one of the German newspapers.
Local media report that the Cathedral of St. Peter and St. Mary is one of the most important German churches. Founded in the fourth century, the temple was a place of pilgrimage of John Paul II in 1980. In memory of this visit in the church erected a 40-centimeter figure of the Pope, which has become a sacred reliquary.
– The whole world could not stop admiring the patience and zeal of John Paul II, which showed at every step, especially in the last days of his life. For many, it has become a model of virtue and a symbol of dignity. I hope that the testimony of his life is a sufficient reason to abandon. I appeal to the perpetrators of the return of the relics – said Rev. Gerd Bachner.
