According to the “New York Times”, the accident occurred before 8:30 am local time (approx. 14.30 our time). The crane fell on Worth Street in Lower Manhattan.
As a result of this disaster, one person was killed – said “the NYT,” referring to the local authorities. This 38-year-old, who at the time of the collapse of a crane sitting in a car parked on Worth Street. Journalists write also about 3 people injured. Serious injury suffered 45-year-old woman and 73-year-old man. Both were taken to hospital. A third person was slightly injured.
Initially the media were informed about a dozen wounded, but they were later denied by the service.
The streets in the area were closed by the ministry, which sought other victims. Halted gas supplies. There were also difficulties in kursowaniu subway – not stop at two stations.
The reasons for the collapse of the great structures, which served, among others, to replace the air conditioning, not yet known. Witnesses told reporters that they saw how wobbly crane in a blizzard and collapsed when the workers tried him “submit.” Local authorities, in turn, reported that when employees arrived Friday morning to work, they noticed that the crane sways and began to protect it. They dragged a foot of the structure, which probably reduced the scale of the tragedy.
