Elections in Austria – such as a radicalization of Europe – Virtual Poland

Radical gained half of the votes in the presidential election. This successful anti-immigrant right wing – reports “Rzeczpospolita”.

The emotions experienced on Sunday the whole of Austria and half of Europe. For the first time in EU voters can seat to the highest position of extreme right-wing politics. Norbert Hofer is the candidate of the Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ). However, it is still not certain, who won the second round of the Austrian presidential elections – Hofer and Alexander Van der Bellen, associated with the Greens independent candidate. The differences between them in the first exit pollach, then already converted the majority of the votes cast at polling stations are minimal.

Regardless of whether Hofer becomes president, the extreme right can speak with the greatest success in the history of the EU. Approximately half of the votes in the general election is not won yet none of this policy option, excitation terror in Brussels and European elites. To follow the path traced by the party Hofer preparing already have other far-right parties in Europe, in particular the French National Front, which is subjected to attempt an election year.

Popularity radicals is primarily a result of the influx of immigrants. But the FPÖ and its allies from the Europe of Nations Group and Liberty – mentioned National Front, the Italian Northern League and the Dutch Freedom Party – is used not only anti-immigrant slogans, as in Poland and allows to achieve good results of the election. The far right – and differs from PiS – is also anti-American and pro-Russian.

Many pointed to the fact that Europe was resigned to the fact that the Austrians can choose a far-right president. – Germany shall respect any choice – said on the eve of the vote the President of the Bundestag Norbert Lammert.

What happens on the political scene in Austria, if it turns out that he won Hofer? – Maybe nothing will happen, if satisfied with the role played by the existing presidents, which will act as the representative. But it may also want to expand the powers. Then you come to the protracted crisis of the state, to the acute political game between the federal government and the president. And it probably will lead to the fact that the new chancellor Christian Kern will have to announce early elections in the autumn, to get legitimacy, and this election may end in victory FPÖ – said, “Rom” before the announcement of the results Rainer Nowak, chief editor of the Vienna daily “Die Presse “.

Interestingly, Nowak, like many experts believe that even the government involving the FPÖ does not lead to the isolation of Austria, the kind which has experienced several years ago, when współrządziła FPÖ led by Jörg Haider. Times have changed. To share power with the extreme right is now ready even many politicians, social democratic SPÖ.

Norbert Hofer clearly hoped that the highest office it will amount to anti-immigrant sentiments in Austria. “We Austrians, we have the right to their homeland” – says the first point of his electoral program. He presented himself as the only candidate who will defend the Austrians, their culture, values and security “before a new journey of peoples.”

The vision of the far-right candidate should worry Brussels. It is opposed to “the EU as a union that debt burden the next generation,” and issuing orders to the EU Member States.
