Pope Francis has appointed former Apostolic Nuncio to Poland, Archbishop Celestino Migliore as its representative in the Russian Federation. It will be the sixth nuncio in Moscow since 1990.
Archbishop Celestino Migliore was born on July 1, 1952. Cuneo in Piedmont, northern Italy. He was ordained in Cuneo June 25, 1977 r., And belongs to the chancel of this diocese. He received a doctorate in canon law at the Pontifical Lateran University. In 1980,. After graduating from the Pontifical Ecclesiastical Academy, he joined the diplomatic service of the Holy See.
In 1980-84 he was attaché and second secretary of the Apostolic Delegation in Angola, then worked in the nunciature in the US in 1988 – in Egypt, and in 1989-1992 at the Apostolic Nunciature in Warsaw, where he learned to Polish language. 14 April 1992. On 9-20 July 2001 in New York, Archbishop Migliore led a delegation of the Holy See at the United Nations Conference on the Illicit Trade in Small Arms and Light Weapons in all its aspects. He also represented the Holy See in various European capitals at numerous conferences related to the World Trade Organisation, the European Economic Commission, the European Union and the Middle East.
