Greece: Police evacuated refugee camp Idomeni – Polish Radio

As police said Greek refugees and migrants are systematically carried to new camps, the creation of which continues, but the first phase has just been completed.

Idomeni came approx. 20 police forces, including approx. 400 officers. Greek government spokesman Jeorios Kyricis assured that during the evacuation of the police will not use force.


 

Kyricis, when asked whether they will all be evacuated from the camp in Idomeni confirmed, while stressing that such a camp “serves only the interests of the smugglers.” He stressed that it is a transfer of people from there to places where there are decent. The spokesman said that the authorities already took care of 6 thousand. places, and by the end of the week will be 8 thousand. locations. Transport to the national government is to take place by bus.


 

First, the authorities want to remove approx. 2 thousand. people blocking the railway line at the border. This line, important for Greek exports, is locked in over a month.

So far, voluntarily agreed to leave the camp about 2500 people, mostly families with children. The remaining camped in appalling conditions on the border and by all means try to get to the countries of Central and Western Europe. For more than two months, they block the railway tracks in Idomeni, causing huge losses to the Greek economy.


 

Local authorities and journalists, who are staying in the area indicate that takes place there drug trafficking and prostitution, and the control of the temporary camp taken over by gangs that formed the migrants.

 

Since the closure of the Greek-Macedonian border Balkan route, which since the summer of 2015 years tended to Europe hundreds of thousands of migrants, was officially closed. However, every day, many refugees trying to enter this route to wealthy countries in Europe.


 

Refugees and migrants Idomeni come from Syria, Iraq, and Afghanistan, as well as Morocco, Tunisia and Pakistan.
