Russia to build two nuclear reactors in Iran – rmf24.pl

Russia will build two nuclear reactors in Iran’s Bushehr nuclear power plant. The agreement was signed by the head of Russia in Moscow Rosatom Sergey Kiriyenko and his counterpart from the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, Ali Akbar Salehi.

The agreement provides for the possibility to build two more reactors.

As pointed out by the Russian state nuclear agency Rosatom, a project that includes the provision of maintenance and fuel, will be under the control of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Moreover, the nuclear reactor at Bushehr, Iran’s first ever built by a consortium of Russian Atomstroiexport, will be in strict accordance with the principles of non-proliferation of nuclear weapons – Communication points Rosatom.

The two countries also signed several agreements to expand nuclear cooperation for peaceful purposes. The point is protocol, which opens the possibility to build a total of eight nuclear reactors on the territory of Iran – according to local media reports.

Four of these reactors will be built in Bushehr not only in other parts of the Islamic Republic.

According to the protocol, the nuclear fuel will be supplied by the Russian side during the entire cycle reactors and eventually must be returned Russia for processing and storage.

Rosatom also announced that Moscow and Tehran “examine the economic viability and the ability to produce in Iran the nuclear fuel elements, which could be used in these reactors”.
