On Saturday morning, the body of 78-year-old Karimov was brought to the government hospital in Tashkent airport. The plane flew to Samarkand, Karimov's hometown. There, at the presidential residence, took place the official farewell ceremony of the leader. The ceremony was chaired by the Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Szawchat Mirziajew. Then, on the Registan Square, next to the medieval mosque, the chief mufti of the country Usmonhon Alimow read the funeral prayer (namaz). According to the official information, the Uzbek government of Islam Karimov died a stroke on Friday at 20.55. He was one of the longest in power leaders in the post-Soviet area - ruled the country continuously since 1989. He was regarded as one of the most bloody and ruthless dictators of our time.

According to the Uzbek constitution after the death of the president of his duties within three months will execute the chairman of the upper house of parliament Nigmatilla Jułdaszew. However, he is not tipped to become the new ruler of Uzbekistan. Experts point out that the chairman of the funeral was 59-year-old premier Szawchat Mirziajew.
