The riots before the match Zamalek (STRINGER / REUTERS)
The incident took place during the match between the teams Zamalek and Enppi. Police said that the fanatical supporters Zamalek tried to get to the stadium without tickets. Riots, which killed 22 people.
Egyptian prosecutor’s office announced that as a result of clashes killed 22 people and announced the initiation of a formal investigation. The Egyptian government announced the suspension of the league.
– We hold the competition for the championship with immediate effect – Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab said.
The Egyptian media says, among others that as a result of clashes burned down a police car, and when fans tried to get to the stadium were shot with rubber bullets. Witnesses say that people died as a result of panic and tear gas suffocation.
This is not the first such tragic event in Egypt. 1st February 2012 due to unrest that erupted after a league match in Port Said, killing 74 people, and about a thousand were injured.
