Defence signed an agreement with NATO
In Brussels, today signed an agreement which aims to provide Polish interoperability of missile defense components – existing radars, as well as sets of air defense, we are going to buy – the NATO system.
The document was signed by Robert Merchant’s deputy defense minister and General Manager of Communications and Information Agency Koen Gijbers NATO. Merchant stressed that the agreement should be seen on two levels. – On the one hand it is a technical agreement that ensures an adequate level of cooperation between Polish and NATO agencies in the field of performance testing capabilities to interact Polish radar systems. On the other hand, it is the beginning of a deeper cooperation, which is associated with our plans for expansion of the national air defense system, including missile defense system, which will be part of the alliance – Merchant said.
The main aim is to ensure interoperability of existing and future missile defense capability Polish system allied called. NATO BMD (ang. Ballistic missile defense). This is to be achieved by the Polish test systems with components from the NATO command and communication. Therefore, in agreement regulates eg. Rules for the exchange and protection of information and method of preparation, implementation and evaluation of tests.
Verification will first deployed in Poland early warning radar system. It is also envisaged that in the future will also be subjected to testing systems that Poland intends only to win, primarily sets of medium-range air defense, which defines the military code name for Wisła.
Permanent Representation of Poland to NATO stresses that the timely provision of interoperability with allied Polish systems enable a better use of our resources. Integration with NATO BMD also strengthen collective defense capabilities and facilitate potential cooperation with allied units if their missile systems will be deployed in Poland.
Computer and Telecommunications Agency, NATO has already signed similar agreements among from the US, France, Germany, the Netherlands and Italy.
Hardware army air defense systems – a very short short- and medium-range (the latter also with the ability to combat missiles) – is the main priority of the existing program to modernize the armed forces.
