The preliminary agreement concerning migrants reached at the EU summit in Brussels is a step forward for the Union and for Turkey, but not for migrants. Migrants are a victim. They are to be returned from Greece back to Turkey. The whole journey toil for nothing. Worse, the agreement applies only to migrants from Syria and Iraq, while Iraqis are in third place in the statistics of refugees, in second place after Syryjczykach occupy Afghans.
Turkey for the readmission of migrants Union issued a hefty bill. Turkish Prime Minister Davotoglu stressed that it is a package in which all elements are equally important for Ankara. It is therefore by a total of 6 billion euros in aid, to adopt the principle that for every adopted back the Syrians will be able to legally settle in the Union, one Syrian among those who now reside in Turkey, the abolition of EU visa requirements for Turkish nationals to the middle of the year and accelerate negotiations EU-Turkey on Turkey’s accession to the Union.
I must admit that is a masterpiece of diplomatic Ankara. Turkey is unfolding, the Union can haggle about the details, because it prays that Turkey itself the migration figured walnut. The solution developed at the top could save the Union from breaking a tooth on the walnut.
But it does not have to. The preliminary agreement is hidden traps. First of all, the Turks visa-free entry to the Schengen area. Also, acceleration of negotiations States certainly did not impress the French, who remember his declaration of former President Sarkozy that Turkey will never enter the EU.
Donald Tusk said after the summit that the days of unregulated migration have passed. I’m afraid it’s premature declaration.
