“April 12 at 1.29 Moscow time during operations in the city of Homs helicopter crashed Air Force of Russia. Two members of the crew is dead” – reported in the statement sent to the agency TASS.
The Ministry of Defence also added that at the crash site working group of experts, which is to explain the cause of the accident. Bodies of victims have been recovered from the wreckage and transported to the Russian base Hmeimim near Latakia.
Helicopters Mi-28 had also previously taken part in the attacks on the positions of the Islamic State (IS) in Palmira, which thanks to the support of the Russian forces was recaptured by forces loyal to Syrian President Baszarowi el-Assad. These machines are equipped with, among others, in controlled anti-tank missiles used eg. to destroy tanks and other armored vehicles, as well as to combat the forces of infantry. According to the agency TASS machine may participate in combat missions conducted both day and night.
From 30 September 2015, the Russian Air Force leads the attacks on “terrorist positions.” West maintained, however, that the aim of the Russian attacks were also formations of the opposition by the control regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
