Edward Lucas: Brexit means the dominance of Germany in the European Union – SE.pl

– “Super Express”: – Great strides approaching referendum on staying Great Britain in the European Union. The case is not a foregone conclusion, because polls show a balance between opponents and supporters of Brexitu. Everything will be decided on the day of the referendum?

– Edward Lucas – Let me start by saying that I am mad at David Cameron. Before the British the most important decision that will determine the future of our country for the next decade. The same referendum is extremely risky. I believe that these issues should not be resolved in this way. It’s madness. I am convinced that remain in the Union, but it is quite unnecessary threat not only to the UK, but throughout the Community. In particular, for the so-called. countries in the front, like Poland, have the most to lose our departure from the Union.

– Even if the British vote for staying in the Union, the same referendum will adversely affect the institution that, and so recently faced the same problems?

– Of course. Even if we stay in the EU, it would cause a lot of damage. Highlighting the selfish national interests, as does Cameron, encourage other member states to do the same. When one of the countries will face internal problems, his leadership considers it worthwhile to solve them by means of conflict with Brussels. In the end, the British did the same. This undermines only the unity of the EU, and profits do not have this no.

– The British press in recent days, eagerly writes that supporters Brexitu is really useful idiots of the Kremlin, who Brexicie only to He gained. This is only part of the campaign against leaving the EU or a real threat?

– Most Britons do not think of leaving the EU in terms of security. For them, only they include issues of economic migration and sovereignty. Of course, it is difficult for the British to blame – after all directly applies to their lives. Few people realize how the EU is important for the UK due to its energy security and opposing Putin. This last issue for me personally is essential, although in our public debate practically does not exist.

– safely assume for a moment that the British opt for Brexitem. Which will it be the consequences? My guess is that they do not touch the UK only.

-First of all, cause a huge sense of insecurity. Subsequently, adversely affect the economy – investment, jobs. This will be the wind in the sails for all populist and Euro-skeptic politicians in Europe and you may find that the new countries, which today govern Eurosceptics, will follow in the footsteps of the United Kingdom. It will also mean the transfer of power in the Union, France and Germany. Especially Germans. And this will affect the impermanence of the EU. It works well only when the strongest countries are mutually balanced. Smaller countries gives it a sense that they have equal opportunities. I can not imagine how the Union can act, when one country virtually dominate this institution.

– Germany self-governing Union? It’s a nightmare Polish right.

– Exactly. I do not see virtually no positive effect to leave the Union by Britain. For this I do not think every Briton understands that this step is also the threat of disintegration of the United Kingdom. Scots already threaten that stands out for its independence, if we leave the Union. The same way it would go probably Wales. This will also have a catastrophic effect on Ireland. Besides economic consequences this could all end resurgence of conflict in Northern Ireland.

– Lays out of this scenario huge geopolitical catastrophe.

– Absolutely. Brexitu consequences can be tragic. Therefore, through the “Super Express” I would like to ask all Poles, who can vote in this referendum, let him take part in it. Let them vote for the United Kingdom staying in the EU. We need help now Polish, as in the past, our Polish needed. He lives with us approx. 1 million Poles – if any of them persuade one British to remain in the Union, we – the opponents Brexitu – we will win this referendum. Otherwise they lose out not only Poles living in the UK, but also Poland, whose position in the EU to weaken.

– Do you think that the crisis, which causes the opportunity of Brexitu, make that the Union is change? Listen now voices from left to right, that to survive, it must be reformed.

-Unia must change. Today, it is in fact in a deplorable state – starting with the euro area, its foreign policy ending. We need to focus our energies on enhancing the single market, the construction of a digital single market, which will allow for economic growth. We need more active in foreign policy and use our strength to end the conflict in the Middle East, which will solve the crisis of migration. We need to deepen security cooperation to cope with terrorism. We need a massive intervention in the banking system to cope with the crisis. Solving these problems will make the populist wave, which today inundates Europe and threatens its future will not be so great. For this, let us focus our energy, not on this foolishness, which is Brexit.
