At least 17 people were killed in bombings in the Sinai Peninsula in Egypt. It is believed that behind the attacks is an organization affiliated with the Islamic State.
According to Egyptian security forces while gunmen attacked several military checkpoints in Sinai. Checkpoints have been fired rockets and machine guns. In the attack had killed at least 15 soldiers and two civilians. The army claims that 15 attackers were killed.
The Egyptian authorities suspect that the attacks made organization Ansar al-Makdis, which is loosely affiliated with the Islamic State. In recent months, rebels have repeatedly attacked military outposts in Sinai bordering Israel and the Gaza Strip. The army claims that only in March killed 70 rebels.
The wave of violence in Sinai intensified when, in mid-2013 the Egyptian army overthrew the government of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt and established new, secular authorities.
