Ukrainian director Oleg Sencow, who was sentenced in Russia for 20 years in prison, was sent to a penal colony in the Irkutsk Oblast.
August 25, 2015, the court in Russia, in Rostov-on-Don sentenced known Ukrainian director penalty of 20 years penal colony with sharpened regime. In the same process the Ukrainian activist from the Crimea Alexander Kołczenkę sentenced to 10 years in a labor camp. In November verdict upheld the Russian Supreme Court.
According to the accusations of Russia, in April 2014 years Sencow had to organize the Crimea “terrorist group”, alleged branch forbidden in the Russian Federation the Right Sector.
For western public opinion from the beginning it was clear that the allegations against known director is a fiction and that he is one of the many victims of the repression of the proukraińsko minded inhabitants of the Crimea. In the spring of 2014 years Russia has made the annexation of the territory of Ukraine – Crimean peninsula. The 39-year-old Sencow and Kołczenko (accused of arson door of the United Russia party in Simferopol) emphasize that they are innocent, and the whole thing is political. The Russian human rights organization Memorial recognized them both as political prisoners.
The release Sencowa to the Russian authorities have appealed many directors and artists. Its liberation strives President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko.
According to Radio Liberty, Sencow is currently in Samara and waiting there to be moved to Irkutsk, and Kołczenko – in Voronezh and is awaiting transport to the circuit Chelyabinsk.
