Hillary Clinton
As has already confirmed officially the Democratic Party, Clinton won 49.8 per cent., and Bernie Sanders of 49.6 percent. the voters of the Democratic Party. The difference is thus minimal. It will fall 23, and Sanders 21 delegates who will represent the state of Iowa during the summer Democratic convention, which will select the party candidate for president.
In the primaries voted a total of 171 thousand. Democrats, almost 70 thousand. less than the record of 2008. when a decisive victory in Iowa won the then President Barack Obama.
In a speech yesterday evening local time, 68-year-old Clinton admitted that he felt “great relief” in relation to the outcome in Iowa. Eight years ago in Iowa Clinton lost the primaries because not only Obama, but also with former Senator John Edwards. Her husband, Bill Clinton also had no luck in 1992 to Iowa, took the then primaries in this state until 3rd place. But it did not stop him then win the Democratic nomination and win the presidential election.
But Hillary Clinton’s much more difficult to win promising a “political revolution” Senator Sanders in New Hampshire, a state that votes in the primaries as the second on 9 February. For months opinion polls indicate significant, of up to several percentage points advantage of 74-year-old senator in this population of just 1.5 million people unable to New England. Its popularity stems largely from the fact that it comes from neighboring New Hampshire, the state of Vermont.
– We know him here and we like, and he knows us. His message goes here on fertile ground. But my first choice is Clinton. Bernie did not receive such support as it is in the general election – said during the recent election rally Clinton in Concord, capital of New Hampshire, Democrat activist Matha Richards, who heads the County of Grafton in New Hampshire.
Sanders was the next billionaire Donald Trump among Republicans, the biggest surprise of the first phase of the presidential campaign in the US. Both, though they have very different programs, criticized the “party establishment” in Washington and promise to radically change America. Stressing that he is a socialist, Sanders promises, among others, raising the minimum wage, free college for all, and universal health care. At its meetings electoral crowds come the most left-wing Democrat electorate. It’s mostly white people and young people, especially students. His passion reminiscent of some voters who eight years ago led to the victory of Obama.
Analysts warn not to attach too much importance to the results of the first two states of Iowa and New Hampshire, because the electorate is in them niereprezentatywnie white and – for Democrats – a very left-wing. That’s why Sanders’ strong position here is not a big surprise. Independent portal “Cook Political Report” estimated that 98 per cent. with approx. 4 thousand. Delegates taking part in the summer Democratic convention to nominate the party’s candidate for president, will come from states where whites left-wing Democrats have a weaker position than in three states: Iowa, New Hampshire and even less from their Vermont. According to the portal, even if Clinton lost in these states, it would still favorites in positions.
It is confirmed Nationwide surveys in which Senator Clinton has the very big advantage, about 20 points. rates, thanks to, among others, much greater popularity among Hispanic and African-American minority.
Clinton, fighting Sanders, is for the time being rather cautious knowing that he can not alienate the electorate senator, which may need in nationwide elections. On the other hand, the fact that Sanders suddenly blossomed into a serious rival, forced her to take a clear position on many important matters for the leftist electorate.
– Sanders Hillary has already changed for the better – assessed Michelle Russell, who came to the meeting with Sanders in Nashua, New Hampshire. He revealed that in the primaries will support Sanders, but if Clinton wins the nomination, is “without hesitation” cast her vote, because the most important – underlined – to stop “those crazy Republicans,” before taking the White House.
