Czech membership in the EU is a matter of priority and "decisive for the future" - stressed Sobotka, while at the same time stressed that the EU will have to change .

- to ensure stability, prosperity and security of the citizens of the Czech Republic is only possible within a coherent, strong and stable European Union - argued Sobotka, quoted by Czech media.

He noted that the Eurosceptics have not presented yet alternative EU "project prosperity." - We still remember where uncontrolled nationalism and led what became a Czechoslovakia - he warned.

On Thursday evening to hold a referendum on continued membership of the Czech Republic in the EU and NATO urged Zeman. - I do not agree with those who are leaving the European Union, but I will do everything to have a referendum and have their say. The same applies to the output of the NATO - said the president.

He also delivered a sharp criticism of the EU. The main reason for the British vote in the recent referendum for leaving their country of the EU, were fears of "total incompetence" current leadership of the EU - said the president, adding that "the EU is a great project with little guidance."

As the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic in 1998-2002 Zeman he helped prepare his country for accession to the EU. However, even as the head of state aroused concerns of some Western capitals because of his pro-Russian views on the conflict in Ukraine. This did not stop the Czech government, which is responsible for the foreign policy of the country, before the support of the EU's policy of sanctions against Moscow.

In the April study center CVVM satisfaction of Czechs with EU membership fell to 25 per cent., With 32 percent. last year.

Conducting a referendum on EU membership would require changes to the Czech constitution, what is needed 60 percent support in both houses of parliament.
