Senate tougher sanctions against Russia and assistance for Ukraine – Onet.pl

In the Act entitled “Ukraine Freedom Act” (Act on Free Ukraine) senators called on Obama to aggravated sanction against the representatives of the Russian authorities and companies controlled by the Russian government. Sanctions would be included among Russia’s defense sector, which provide weapons to the Syrian authorities.

In addition, the law, which has yet to accept the Board representatives, provides the opportunity to assist Ukraine in the following sectors: military, defense, energy, civil and aid to refugees in the Ukraine.

“indecisive US response to the ongoing invasion of Russia in Ukraine threatens further escalation of the conflict,” – said one of the authors of the Act, Republican Senator Bob Corker. “The unanimous support for our demonstration of the bill is strong support for Ukrainian sovereignty, and (will) to (Russian President Vladimir) Putin paid for an attack on the freedom and security in Europe.”

Act, before it hits the desk of President, has yet to obtain the approval of the House of Representatives.

Obama administration of reserve so far refer to the idea that a US Congress tightened sanctions against Russia. The adoption of the Senate bill would undermine the existing strategy of imposing sanctions by the United States in close coordination with the European Union.

Even before the vote in the Senate, Obama signaled Thursday that he thinks is right action on sanctions in full accord with Europe. Only that, according to Obama, could eventually lead the President of Russia to rethink a decision on the eastern Ukraine. “The idea that we can simply continue to gradually increase sanctions until Putin finally change his mind, is, in my opinion, a mistake in slipped up,” – said the president of the United States.

So far, the US sanctions imposed on Russia in connection with the annexation of the Crimea and supporting the rebellion in eastern Ukraine, were introduced only by the US administration as part of Obama’s presidential powers. If Obama agreed to the Act of Congress and signed it, it would not only increased the range of sanctions, but also their eventual elimination of the future would depend on the consent of Congress. Thus, as noted by recent newspaper “The Wall Street Journal,” Obama “would raise their hands”, limiting the possibilities of influencing the Kremlin by quickly responding to the situation – eg. By relaxing or tightening of sanctions.
