The Belgian investigators announced at a press conference that the police wanted to search the homes of about 10 people who recently returned to the country from Syria. It also shows that the suspects opened fire to the officers; ensuing shootout in which two people were killed. The third was arrested.

According to investigators, there is no evidence yet that there was some relationship between this group and the recent events in Paris. Prosecutors, however, reported that the group was planning to carry out terrorist attacks “on a grand scale.”

The agency Belga reported that two dead and detained in an operation recently returned from Syria and were under observation services. She recalled that the Islamic State jihadi (IS), mainly operating in the territory of Syria and Iraq, recruits fighters also among European citizens, including Muslims living in Belgium. Reuters adds that among the local communities of Muslims observed increased activity of radical groups.

Earlier, Belgian officers arrested a man who had the potential to supply the terrorists who shot dead 17 people in Paris. He reported himself to the police. He said he was in contact with Amedym Coulibalym who took hostages in a kosher store in Paris and killed four people there.

Police found evidence that the man negotiate with a terrorist on the sale of the cartridges.

After the attacks on the editorial staff of the weekly “Charlie Hebdo” in Paris, Belgium has not raised the terror alert level. Additional security measures are, however, taken in some strategic locations in the country.
