Russian black list with the names of 89 politicians of the EU visa ban is a “hostile act” – says MEP Jacek Saryusz-Wolski . His colleagues from the European Parliament stressed that the list winds up the spiral of mistrust. Some admit that they are proud that they were on the list.
– Blacklist is a list of merit. You can be proud that we are on this list. There are people who not only want the best of everything for Ukraine, but also are friends of Russia ,. Putin needs to change – said liberal MEP from the Netherlands Johannes van Baalen during the European Parliament debate on the resolution on EU-Russia relations.
Jacek Saryusz-Wolski (PO) estimated that Moscow’s introduction of the visa ban against 89 politicians and personalities from the EU countries is “very hostile act” because it attacks the European elite when it comes to shaping relations with Russia. According to Finnish Liisa Jaakonsaari socjaldemokratki drawn up by Russia’s blacklist is a “bad move that only winds up the spiral of mutual distrust”.
Blacklist “testifies to Russia’s helplessness and cynicism of a regime that has become increasingly neurotic” – said, Belgian MEP of the European Conservatives and Reformists Mark Demesmaeker.

The main political groups in the EP opted Tuesday in favor of maintaining economic sanctions against Russia and addiction for their removal or easing the fulfillment of the agreement from Minsk ceasefire on the eastern Ukraine.
As pointed out by Anna Fotyga (PiS), maintenance of sanctions is necessary. According to Polish MEP using aggressive policy Russia is trying to regain influence in the world. Russia has inscribed in its military doctrine and foreign policy concept of the possibility of “impact in the near vicinity, if it considers that Russian interests are violated,” – said Fotyga. – And, unfortunately, Russia sees the violation of their interests in almost every simplest case – pointed.
According to many MEPs, the EU must also outline a vision of its relationship with Russia and to be open to the possibility of dialogue. – The main thing is that we were open to dialogue. We have common interests and challenges, such as combating climate change or terrorism – said Social Democrat Liisa Jaakonsaari. – We should be ready to cooperate with Russia if conditions change – rated Demesmaeker.
The debate also appeared, however, quite different opinions – on the extreme right and the left. French National Front MEP Chauprade Aymeric said that the Europarliament resolution criticizing Russia is “a catalog of false claims” and a sign of blindness, and an agreement on ceasefire on the eastern Ukraine is violated by both sides in the conflict. On the other hand, Helmut Scholz from the German Left rating that should be empathy towards Russia and set up to dialogue and cooperation, rather than spiral of conflict.
The EU’s justice commissioner věra jourová said during the debate that already should be begin reflection in the EU over plans for relations with Russia in the short and long term. – Events in the Crimea and Donbas should not make us that we do not pay attention to the broader horizon and identify challenges and opportunities that we can exploit – she said.
