On Saturday, it’s been exactly nine months after the first informal exit Committee for the Defense of Democracies in Pomerania, which was attended by less than a hundred people. The only member of the CODE-in time was Radomir Szumełda.
During this time a lot has happened: December 13 CODE-men went out for the first time on pl. Solidarity, where several thousand people gathered in January CODE defended free media on the Coal Market in February pl. “Pomerania sets the direction for democracy”

– I am thrilled that we can meet on the occasion of the first democratic elections in CODE-zie, which are fighting for democracy. So far acted spontaneously – I spoke to the Regional General Meeting CODE-in Matthew Kiev, chairman of the association. – We had a lot of discussion on how to prepare for the elections. We have been criticized for the lack of internal democracy. Zwlekaliśmy with this, because when CODE was created, there was no time to deal with each other. When we started to fight for democracy, there was no time to deal with the organization. We had a lot of important things to do and many did, including prevented bringing about early local elections. From the beginning, we said loudly that we do not deal with each other in the first place. At the beginning of the case are Polish. As something begins, it Pomerania is always the first in Poland. Thank you, that sets the direction of Western democracy.

– CODE is not Matthew Kiev, is not Radomir Szumełda. It is the people involved who believe in what they are doing. It’s all of us. We hope that could be better and will get better – said Szumełda. – There are those who think that the marches no longer have little influence. Looking at the electoral polls, the expectation of rapid social change is a mistake. We have to be prudent in our actions. We need humility and patience. “Solidarity” marched nine, but was victorious. We go the same way, but we believe that we will reach the goal faster. There is no power in the world that is not afraid to manifest the people on the street. Power PiS owska too afraid of us, even if he says otherwise. We focused on Poland, the eyes of the democratic world. CODE is a civic opposition and must remain an organization that looks at power in his hands. We must be prepared for various scenarios, but one can be sure – CODE political party will not.
Szumełda elected majority
in the election of chairman of the board of the region as candidates: Radomir Szumełda and Michal Szulc, 54-year-old from Gdansk, the architect, who in CODE-zie operating since December 2015. He says about himself, that helps, whom we can and when we can. When asked about the three most important actions, the candidates said that they will defend the values and protest and seek new forms of resistance (Szumełda), push for action (Szulc).
In the vote was attended by 252 people. 223 people gave their vote for Radomir Szumełdę 29 on Michael Szulc. All votes were valid. The seven-chairman of the board in addition there were six members: Michael Szulc, May Augustynek, Tomasz Bemben, Tomasz Sokulski, Magdalena Jędrychowska and Jacek Kendra. Voting in the election of regional authorities CODE-in was carried out by the majority, although the chairman CODE-u do not rule out in the future other methods, eg. Preferential.
– I was wondering what emotions skrzyknęły letter in November 2015. In my opinion it was anger. Some of us did not want to accept the election results, but most of us directed anger. On Sunday, September 4 in Gdansk will be a demonstration against the “disgraceful actions of the current government, especially against depriving citizens of legal protection by removing the Constitutional Court “. Details are not yet known.
