Orban: the European institutions should complete the “play politics”

In a speech at a joint press conference before the meeting of heads of governments of the Visegrad Group and German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Warsaw Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban presented the position of his country in relation to the future of the EU. He referred in this context to the perspective Brexitu, which – in his opinion – “is not the cause but the effect of the European situation.”

According to Orban, the EU is currently facing the loss of adaptability “in virtually every dimension,” among others in relation to the economic crisis, migration and the problems of European security. Moreover – he argued – the EU does not hold up, “even our existing policy” on border protection and fiscal policies of the Member States.

Orban also presented Hungarian proposals for changes in the EU. He spoke, among others, for maintaining “a tight fiscal policy, based on economic growth”, and make greater priority to safety. – Let’s start with creating a common European army – appealed.

The Hungarian Prime Minister also stressed that the European institutions should return to a proper job. – The European Council let them lead the Union, the Commission let the fun end to the policy and return to its core tasks – he argued.

He added that the EU should revise the common policies: to maintain “good old politics” – cohesion policy and agriculture, to give up its policies for social affairs and migration, and also create a new policy, concerning, among others digitization.

On the other hand, referring to the possible need to change the basic treaty of the EU, Orban estimated that it will show later stages of the talks.

Fico: we need to define the current state of the European Union

– There are great expectations for the meeting in Bratislava, but there is a lot of differences concerning, among others scale necessary actions – rated in turn, Prime Minister of Slovakia Robert Fico. – We would like to bring their views when it comes to meeting agenda Bratislava – he added.

He pointed out that there are countries “to expect that the meeting in Bratislava will start deep, fundamental changes in the basic documents, acts”. There are also – as pointed out – countries, “which says that the European Union does not require until such fundamental changes.” He added that there are “countries that seek the golden mean.”

Therefore, as noted, it is important to close the positions. – I have an ambition, we have defined in Bratislava condition in which there is the European Union and at the same time defined the few areas we should work on further at future meetings. All of this could be to find a solution in 2017 with the signing of agreements Treaties of Rome – said Prime Minister Fico.

The Slovak prime minister indicated that his country important feature migration and all that is associated with security.

– We do not mean only the fight against terrorism and internal security. We are concerned about economic security. Therefore, strong economic topics have become themes in Bratislava – he said.

He assured that his country from the organization is prepared to meet representatives of 27 countries.

After the statements for journalists heads of states of the Visegrad Group and Germany they went to work conversation.

Sobotka: the need for a European army

The Czech Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka said that Friday’s meeting is particularly important in view of the ongoing debate about the priorities of the EU. He said that in the coming months and years Europe should try to quickly regain the trust of the population to the process of European integration.

He expressed the opinion that during Friday’s meeting could agree on common positions. – They draw a very bright spots, for which it seems to me that in Bratislava and in the process, which will Bratislava, we will be able to agree – rated.

He said that the Czech Republic is an important issue of external and internal security of the EU. – Better protection of borders Schengen is not just a matter of better cooperation in the fight against terrorism, but we think we should also open the discussion on the possible creation of a common European army – he said.

– This process will not be easy. Nevertheless, I am convinced that Europe needs better cooperation in the field of defense and security policy, above all when it comes to ensuring the (safety) of the external borders of the Schengen area – he said.

He pointed out that the second important theme is to ensure economic growth in order to strengthen the homogeneity of the EU.

– We have a common market, but there are still very large differences in living standards between countries, in income and earnings. Therefore, it seems to me that the emphasis on economic growth, cohesion policy, the use of European funds, equalization of living standards is what can create prosperity for Europe – rated.
