Mexico: the mayor’s wife implicated in the disappearance of students in … – Polish Radio

Maria de los Angeles Pineda is the wife of Jose Luis Abarki, former mayor Iguali in the state of Guerrero in the south-western Mexico. According to the prosecution Pineda brothers drug cartel led by Guerreros Unidos. As said Monday federal prosecutor Tomas Zerone, a woman was accused of organized crime and illegal use of funds.

Pineda, who previously lived under house arrest, was transferred to a prison in Nayarit state, north of Mexico. It is not clear whether the accusations at his residence are associated with the disappearance of the students.
Former mayor and his wife were arrested on November 4 in Mexico City. Abarka accused of organized crime, kidnapping and murder in connection with events before the loss of students.
Iguali September 26th there was a student demonstration against education reform. During the protest left six people dead and dozens wounded. Students were attacked by corrupt cops and then handed over, probably at the instigation of the mayor of the city, the cartel Guerreros Unidos.
Manifestations disappeared 43 students who were last seen in police vans.
Detained gang members admitted to the murder of 43 people and burn their corpses.
In early December, the Mexican media, citing government sources, reported that Argentine forensic experts ha ve identified the remains of at least one of the abducted students. The bone fragments were found on the garbage heap in Cocula, near the Iguali.
Guerrero state grapples with the highest homicide rate in the country.
