Brazilian police arrested a former leftist activist Cesare Battisti Italian to his extradition. In Italy, he was sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of the late 70s his earlier refusal to issue sparked a diplomatic crisis.
Lewacki terrorist escaped in 1981 from the Italian prison and took refuge first in France and then in Latin America. There began a new chapter in his life: he began to write novels, among other crimes. He wrote several books.
The 60-year-old is currently Battisti, a former member of the Armed Proletarians organizations to Communism, received asylum in Brazil, when then-President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva rejected in December 2010 – the last day in office – a request for his extradition, which caused a crisis in relations between Italy and Brazil.
However, in the last week, a court in the capital, Brasilia, Italian fans visa canceled and was in favor of his expulsion. Ruled that Battisti should not have received in Brazil right of residence, as a foreigner of “irregular situation” and “offender sentenced for the murder of his country.”
An Italian court sentenced him in absentia in 1993 to life imprisonment. Was convicted of four murders committed in 1977-79; had to kill two police officers, a jeweler and a butcher. Battisti has never admitted his guilt.
In March 2007, he was arrested in Rio de Janeiro as a result of a joint operation of police Brazilian, French and Italian. At the end of 2010, the Italians refused to release Battisti President Lula da Silva. In June 2011, the Italian application was rejected by the Brazilian Supreme Court, and a few hours later, Battisti was released from custody. Later that same month, received permission for permanent residence in Brazil.
