For a few days last diplomatic exchange blows between Riyadh and Stockholm. It all started on Monday, when the head of the Swedish foreign minister wanted to ask the League of Arab, but the Saudis protest. Sweden argues that the Arab monarchies did not like the planned speech in which Margot Wallström was criticized for human rights on the Gulf and Saudi talk about dictatorship .
Then events unfolded very quickly. In response, the Sweden announced that it will not renew the multi-billion dollar military contracts with Riyadh and deliver Saudom weapons. We called the Saudi ambassador and we announced that we are suspending military cooperation – said the Swedish Minister of Defence Peter Hultqvist.
The new Swedish government has already made on several decisive steps on the Middle East. When in January Stockholm Palestinian state recognized the independence of the Israeli authorities stated that the ministers of this country are undesirable people in Jerusalem. On the other hand, Saudi Arabia for many years has been criticized by human rights organizations. The Saudi monarchy is alleged suppression of freedom of speech, and an example is given of imprisonment or flogging for independent bloggers.
